What role should you be playing in your child’s education ?
It’s a tough question.
On the one hand you want to creating an independent thinker, but on the other, you want to guide them in the right direction where possible.
Where do you draw the line ?
Should you be allowing your children to take responsibility for their own deadlines, or are you being negligent as a parent by not ‘cracking the whip’ ? And how much creative assistance should you be giving on assignments ? After all, who’s assignment is it….your’s or their’s ?
It’s one of the things that international Education Futurist David Price will be discussing in Canberra on Wednesday night November 5. David is a guest of the Association of Parents and Friends of ACT Schools. This event is happening at the Hedley Beare Centre for Teaching and Learning on Fremantle Street at Stirling between 6 and 8pm.
I spoke with David on my radio program this morning. Listen to the interview here.
On November 5th he’ll also be discussing the treacherous game of trying to predict what the employment growth areas will during the child’s working life, and how we need to rethink the way that we teach and learn.
