This morning a Canberra family is filled with grief. Thousands of tears would have been shed overnight for the loss of a young man in a motorbike crash. A young man who had his whole life in front of him.
Every single time you get behind the wheel of the car….every time you get on the bike. Every time you use the roads in this town, you are taking your life into your own hands.
People forget this.
We get into auto pilot mode and just figure that everything is going to play out today in the same way that it played out yesterday….and it doesn’t always.
This young motorcyclist came to grief with a bus in Bruce last night. This was soon after 7pm at the intersection of Haydon Drive and Mary Potter Circuit.
We often joke that the best place to have an accident is right next to a hospital. There was nothing funny about this one.
My understanding is that the bus was turning right out onto Haydon Drive heading south. The motorcyclist was zipping along Haydon Drive. After the collision the man was taken to Calvary Hospital emergency department but died a short time later.
We don’t know much more about the accident. I gather there were a few passengers on the bus at the time and some other cars around the collision, but we’re not sure who was at fault. As you can imagine, the bus driver was in a state of shock.
Please slow it down and be alert on the roads today.
