I was pre-selected as a Liberal candidate for the ACT election a few weeks ago.

Doesn’t that change your life ?

I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive support from so many people. Thanks to everyone who has put their hand up to assist.  Thanks to everyone who has stopped me to say hello on the streets of Tuggeranong.

What I don’t understand is the people who ‘hate’ you because of the colour that you happen to be wearing.

Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 4.26.20 pmI had a Facebook ‘friend’ who instantly defriended me upon hearing my news, with the message, “Uh Liberals. No thanks. F off wanker”

Yeah, it seemed a little extreme to me too.

I think that my former Facebook friend is actually rejecting democracy. He’s saying that there should only one political party in the country and that’s the one which has policies most aligned with his ideas.  What rubbish. Our political system doesn’t work without ideas from left and right and all points in between.  How could you have debate with just the one set of ideas ? How could you just become nasty to someone because they’d decided to put their hand up for the other side. I’ve always had friends right across the political spectrum and I will continue to do so.  I’ve had a number of conversations with some old Labor heads about my candidacy because they happened to be close friends of mine.

And can I tell you, one of the things that I’m looking forward to on the campaign trail is coming face to face with Jonathon Davis from the Greens. Jonathon is running in the same seat as me. The bloke is a one man riot and jousting with him will be lots of fun.
