It’s a big day in Gungahlin today for a number of reasons.
Today for the first time in…well we’re not sure how long….suffice to say way too long. Today they’re going to mow the Ngunnawal floodway.
Noeline who listens regularly is beside herself. She’s hyperventilating. She’s worried about the wildlife that may emerge from this jungle.
So there’s number one.
In other big news for Gungahlin Meegan Fitzharris will be making her maiden speech in our little pretend parliament…the three ring circus on London Circuit and she’ll be presenting herself as “the first MLA from Gungahlin”.
She fought hard to win votes in 2012 and win them she did. Nearly enough to topple sitting Minister Simon Corbell, but not quite there. It was a cruel time for her back then, because there were moments during which it appeared she had spot, but it wasn’t to be. All good things come to those who wait and such is the case for Meegan Fitzharris. A month ago she was declared the winner of a countback to replace former chief minister Katy Gallagher in the seat of Molonglo. She’ll be sworn in today at the start of the first sitting day for the year.
I understand that she’s had a quiet rehearsal of the maiden speech, in front of the bathroom mirror overnight. According to the Canberra Times, she will talk today about the benefits of the $800 million light rail line to Gungahlin, plans for a cinema in the town centre and traditional Labor Party values.
I think she’ll revel in her new role and I wish Meegan Fitzharris MLA all the best.
