The Canberra Area Theatre Awards – affectionately called the Cats – is turning 20 and there’s just as much life in it as those nine of a real moggy but with more of a seductive miaow and syncopated purring than a high pitched screeching of the backstreet divas.
There have been ups and downs, sponsorship and financing dilemmas but the indefatigable Coralie Wood and her cohorts of supporters have kept the ball rolling to the delight of a formidable cast of amateurs from far and wide with passion and pride for the productions and the producers, the stars and the backstage, the technical and the musical that entertain us every year.
And in keeping with tradition the nominations are a formidable list of people in categories above and beyond expectations for an awards night, but that’s part of the Cat Awards, no category is left unsung or unrewarded.
To get the ball rolling for the annual night of nights at Llewellyn Hall on Saturday 21 February a dinner in the foyer of the Q Theatre was a perfect venue for Coralie Wood, who is rather fond of foyers and even fonder of a party.
You can check out more of the pics over on my site. And we’ll see you at the CATS in February.
